What is Interdisciplinary Design Studio (IDS)?
IDS is a series of educational activities, organized by the METU Design Factory and supported by METU Technopolis, industry and NGOs, that are based on interdisciplinary collaborative learning. The activities include workshops, seminars and hands-on learning.
IDS-4 is an elective course (ID403 – Collaborative Design) open to students from all departments.
During the IDS-4, the participants will develop product ideas, design these products, and manufacture prototypes with guidance from a mentor group that consists of METU academicians and industry & NGO representatives. Idea development, design and prototyping phases will be conducted by a team of students from different departments and mentored by two academic and one industry mentor.
The primary objective of IDS is not only to teach the concept of interdisciplinary work to the participants in a scientific method but also let them experience and act in a diverse environment.
IDS teams will be presenting the ideas and products they developed during the Studio to METU students, academics, Technopolis staff, and industry & NGO representatives at the closing ceremony at the end of the Fall semester.
